Diablo II LoD on twilight
I have asked if it's possible to get D2 on twilight quite some time ago and it was said that it can be only run on windows or you need 2 pc's. The local D2 server shut down around June 2008. Now there has been no local server for quite some time and int servers are way to laggy with 500-1kms. The d2 community have been trying to get a d2 server running for quite some time but no luck at all, people even tried hosting servers on 4mb cons but are too noob to set it up :P.
Ok so after I researched a bit about d2 not being able to be hosted on linux there are however ways that work but might take some time.
From what I could gather you get the windows emulator WINE and run D2GS from it while running the databases (D2DBS) on linux. I do not know much about linux but I am sure you do. If this is possible it would make quite a few people happy. The d2 players can be found in #diablo2 on IRC.

I'm actually more interested in the up and coming games such as the new Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. But I suppose that's not really up for discussion until they have each been released, and apart from that I heard that d3 is going to be using some sort of different new BattleNet interface.

Loved playing on the old local server and had a great time. Lots of nice people, and we're all seeking a new home now :) Would be extremely happy if you were able to work it out, bedlamp. Many of the people from the old server will surely want to help out as well, just let us know if we can do anything. We really appreciate your effort!

Since this requires 0 coding, i'm going to be attempting to get this working on my side. When i do i'll start harrasing. Nothing like a little bit of Diablo 2 to break in a new mouse :)

I never had the chance to even lan D2...So im missing this HUGE gap in my education.Il go buy a brand new shiny D2 and LoD if twilight hosts. -

I think we also need to get the D2 community up and growing/going
theres no point in having this for a community thats only temporary, and people SAYING "i'll play as often as I can" isn't much of a commitment.
Saying that, I'm not sure how we going to prove that we're dedicated -

d2 closed realm runs on Windows only. It is possible to get it to run on Linux, but it's a royal pain in the ass. I really doubt that this is going to happen as I'm putting in an insane amount of my personal time into Twilight as it is, so I doubt I'll find even more. Very sorry. I'll leave this open, and if it gets enough votes, there is always hope.
